UHC-Maxxis Sweeps USAF Classic Podium
6/14/2010Team UnitedHealthcare Presented by Maxxis took all three top spots at the U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic, with a victory for Jake Keough and second and third places for Hilton Clarke and Karl Menzies. The race was held June 13 in Arlington, Virginia. The sweep gave Clarke his second trip to the podium of the weekend; just one day earlier, he won the USAF Cycling Classic Clarendon Cup.
Employing their customary teamwork on Sunday, the Cormet-riding crew of eight sprinters worked together to push Keough, Clarke and Menzies over the line ahead of the pack. “In the lead-out, it was just a matter of who came across the line first,” Menzies told VeloNews.com “We don’t care about the order as long as it’s UnitedHealthcare winning.”
Group effort was also a key factor in Clarke’s Clarendon Cup win, his debut event with the team. "My team showed a lot of composure at the end of the race," Clarke told cyclingnews.com. "None of the attacks mattered because it was all about us sticking together in numbers, which was what we had at the finish. It didn't matter who went because we could bring them back."
UHC-Maxxis is on a roll, with the weekend’s back-to-back victories following Marc de Maar’s overall win at Mount Hood in Philadelphia earlier this month.
Maxxis congratulates Jake Keough, Hilton Clarke and Marc de Maar on their recent victories and thanks the entire UnitedHealthcare Presented by Maxxis squad for their consistently fine performances.
