UnitedHealthcare-Maxxis’ Menzies, Sutherland Take Wins

4/26/2010

With victories in two separate events, Team UnitedHealthcare Presented by Maxxis had a winning late-April weekend. Karl Menzies won the Athens Terrapin Twilight Criterium, held April 24 in Georgia, while teammate Rory Sutherland took first place in two stages at the La Vuelta de Bisbee, held April 23-25 in Arizona.

Menzies was elated by his victory. "That was an awesome race," he told cyclingnews.com. "It's a historical race to win, and I'm pretty happy to get the feather in the cap, I guess. This series is great for us because we get a good block of racing in to practice breakaway, sprints and lead-outs." The Athens Terrapin Twilight Criterium kicked off the seven-criterium USA Crits Speed Week. With a second place finish, Menzies’ teammate Andrew Pinfold did well at a later race in the series, the Historic Roswell Criterium, held April 25 in Roswell, Georgia.

As Menzies and Pinfold took podiums in the South, Sutherland was winning two of the La Vuelta de Bisbee’s four stages, finishing first in both the opening and Stage 3 time trials.  “Rory's been training hard in the time trial and really trying to gear up for California, and he is showing that he is getting his form," the team’s director sportif Mike Tamayo told cyclingnews.com.

Maxxis congratulates Karl Menzies and Rory Sutherland on their victories and thanks Andrew Pinfold for his fine performance.
