Maxxis Takes 3 of Top 4 at Formula Drift Round 2
5/19/2009Maxxis drivers barreled past the competition at Formula Drift’s second round, with a victory for Chris Forsberg and third and fourth place finishes for Ryan Tuerck and Joon Maeng. Proving Ground, Round 2 of the series, was held May 8-9 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.
In a skillful performance, Forsberg rode the doors of his fellow drivers throughout the contest. He says his MA-Z1 Drifts held up under the brutal conditions of Road Atlanta. “Everything went great. There were a lot of issues going on with tires, but Maxxis never gives us issues. Even with the heat of Atlanta, the tires don’t delaminate or blister,” Forsberg said, adding that the MA-Z1’s grip allowed him to speed up and slow down against a wide range of makes and models. “We’re thrilled to get back on the podium in Atlanta with Maxxis. It’s always been a good track for us, and now we’re looking forward to going back to the tight corners of the track in Wall, New Jersey,” he said.
Holding the overall lead in series’ points, Tuerck made a repeat appearance in the Road Atlanta top three. “I took third place there in 2008, and I was happy to able to put Maxxis back on the podium in front of a hometown crowd,” said Tuerck, who was also pleased with his tires. “The MA-Z1s performed absolutely fantastic. The tires are so amazing and sticky and last so long that we barely had to change any tires while we were out on the pit road.”
Maeng’s performance, which marked his first appearance in the top 16 as well as the final 4, was so thrilling that spectators were disappointed when he left the track. He credits his MA-Z1 Drifts for helping him advance at Round 2. “Because of the phenomenal Maxxis tires, I was confident to drive hard as I could and deliver an exciting driving style to all my fans,” said Maeng. “I initiated the drift with full speed going into the first turn, and the amazing Maxxis tires lit up with smoke and provided the traction I needed. These tires exceed my harsh driving style, and I am very happy to be a part of the Maxxis team. The tires grip well, are reliable and last long. I'm very grateful to be competing in the Formula Drift Series.”
Maxxis congratulates Chris Forsberg on his victory and Ryan Tuerck and Joon Maeng on their outstanding performances, and thanks them for choosing the brand of champions.
